Hi everyone!
Just thought id update this now that I have been at uni for about a month now! WOW how quickly time has gone!
My first thoughts of the course were WOW, this is going to be one massive journey indeed! Not that I ever thought it was going to be easy, but I guess there is just a lot to take in! However, the first few weeks have gone pretty smoothly and I have found my place again after having a year off study.
Ok, so whats new?? Well, I have recruited three pregnant ladies to have as my 'follow throughs' or Continuity of Care Experiences! I wasn't expecting to find them so early in the course but im glad I have had a head start to kick me off in the right direction!
I attended my first ante-natal visit with my first woman a couple of weeks back (I will keep names private for now) and it was such a fantastic experience. She was 8 weeks at the time of the appointment and I was able to sit in on her first consult and watch her little 'jellybean' on the ultrasound - amazing! There was this tiny little thing, a new life forming, with the strongest little heartbeat beating away. It was just one of those moments where you really appreciate life and the miracle that it really is! This woman had previously had children so she had been through this road before, but nonetheless, still an amazing time for her all over again!
Im still on the quest to recruit a few more woman (another 7 this year if possible) so ill have to work hard on that in the next few weeks. I start my first clinical placement in May but im not too sure where ill be placed though. Im actually really looking forward to it!
Well, ill wrap up here and update in the next week or so (or when something interesting happens!)
Thanks for reading!
Carla
